are you within windows, when you try to reboot in the msdos window (dos, and msdos are different- msdos is an 'emulation' of dos w/in windows, dos is entered while booting up.

hope that you didn't flash your bios within the msdos emulation window- needs to be performed in dos. trying to flash w/ in msdos is supposed to be dangerous, as it can screw up your hard drive.

try to reset the cmos jumper/ or remove battery- probably 30sec- 60 sec., then retry booting up the pc

Hi,

but my problem is that windows doesn't reboot in MS-DOS mode
when i use the

STARTmenu>shut down the sistem... >" Suspend" "reboot" - "shutdown" - "reboot in MS-DOS mode"....

reboot in msdos doesn't work

is it a BIOS problem?

What happens now if you actually try to reboot in MS-DOS mode? Does it freeze? Shutdown?

i thought it was shut down in ms dos mode- i'm in win2k right now, i'll have to reboot in win98 to check it out- later though. might want to run system file checker- start>run>(type in)SFC<enter> run program- replace missing/corrupted items from the win98cd (extracts from). might help.

i am wrong- restart in ms-dos mode it is. i've got win98se as well. going to try it to check it out.

basically leaves windows, and goes into dos- where you can work in dos- i have to physically reboot the machine (switch, ctrl+alt+del, ect...), or shut the sytem off while in dos- it's never 'rebooted' on it's own w/ that option.

What happens now if you actually try to reboot in MS-DOS mode?

adamis, do you have an 'Exit To Dos' shortcut in your Windows folder? If you do, have you made any changes to it?

Windows normally makes sure that it's created if it doesn't exist, unless there is a problem. Otherwise, it may not work properly if the settings have been altered in a bad way.

It's already been asked but what exactly happens when you choose 'Restart in Dos Mode'? Does it just restart windows normally? Crash? Freeze? Play dead? Roll over? Pee on itself?
