Installing Win7 on 4TB drive

Post by OneSpirit »

Okay the first problem of my new build. Win7 won't use the whole 4TB drive. I partition the drive giving windows 300GB. I wanted to do 3 more partitions, but I can only do two and the rest is unallocated and can't be made to a new simple volume.
I read that I have to have a GPT instead of MBR ... couldn't figure out so far how to do that ... and I read I have to boot in a UEFI mode and win7 has to be bootable in the UEFI mode ... don't know how to do that either.

So can anyone help me get win7 installed? My new specs are listed. The Ryzen rig. Thanks for reading my post.

Wellsir ... I used the software AOMEI Partition Assistant to convert the MBR to GPT without having to reinstall windows. I had to change my boot prorities to the UEFI on the hard drive. The only problem is one of the partition is showing 718GB, in the partition assistant, but is showing a capacity of only 348Gb. The other 3 partitions are showing there correct size. Trying to figure out if the software can correct this.

Okay ... I deleted the F partition and recreated it. That did the trick. New problem. After installing 161 windows update I get a message for one update stating my hardware is not compatible with this version of windows ... it that were the case why was I able to install all the updates? I thought it was just intel doing that crap, not amd. No way on God's green earth am I going to dish out some dough for 10. M$ can kiss my grits!!! Is there a way to get around this?

Wellsir ... I found out that M$ put in updates that keep me from getting the rest of the update. They block me because of the processor. That is so under handed. PDT_Armataz_01_19
This site claims to have a patch for those updates, but why can't I just remove them?

Wellsir ... that site I provide a link to did the trick.: I am now getting the rest of my updates. Take that M$!

Okay on to the next problem ... no sound. I have a surround sound and I hook my plugs in according to the manual where they are suppose to be but no sound. I did install the drivers for the audio, so that is the next thing I am working on.

That was the idea of posting as I go along ... and it give me a record of what I did. Now for the next problem the USB 3.0 PCIE card that started this whole adventure isn't working. I went to the manufacture website ... Rosewill ... and got the driver for the RC508. Installed it, but the device manager is telling me the device can't start and is giving me a code 10 error. I am doing research to see if I can find a solution. The device manager has it listed as Renesas Electronic USB 3.0 Host Controller. It's suppose to be compatible with win 7. Any ideas ... please post.

Wellsir ... I contacted Rosewill's tech support and apparently the card is defective. The are sending me a replacement. I tried using this Anker hub with 10 port that was very expensive and guess what! ... yep ... it didn't work. I got it from ebay so I am asking for a refund.

I was having a problem loading my FSX flight sim program got an error about the DirectX not being compatible. A poster on the flight sim help forums gave me the solution ...

Okay ... that's all I got for now ... stay tune for the next excite episode of installing win7 on a 4TB drive on a new build. :-|
