win10 anni edition 1607...

Post by bdub »

got a system here I need to update only just as far as the win10 version 1607, which was the "anniversary update", and predates version 1703 which was when the creator's updates started.
I was able to download, what I thought was, a fullfile update of 1.2 gigs in size that should be all the proper prgraming for that version 1607 from here...
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4000825

but wehen I try to install it, the installer comes back with an error that this update doesn't apply. I am running version 1511 currently, and I've tried this installer with windows update service both on and off. no dice.
anybody got an updater file link from official sources that doesn't need to hit the web to do this update...
or any other suggestions?

thanks.

Version 1511 support for Windows 10 Pro and Home ended in October 2017.
Support for Enterprise and Education versions also died in April 2018.
1511 was the second version (revision?) of Win 10, and had the build number 10.0.10586.
If unsure about the build number, type "winver" into the taskbar search box and open the "About Windows" tab.
The Media Creation Tool should allow an easy upgrade to a later version. But have patience if need be!

let me be clearer... I have a machine with version 1511, and I ONLY WANT TO GO TO VERSION 1607. no further.
is there a download that will update windows 10 ONLY to version 1607? I know it is older, but that's what was requested.

Err.. yeah, that MS link referred to version 1709.
Here are some other links I did find..

Some computer features and drivers are not 100% compatible to the Win 10 platforms. Have you checked if your unit is fully compatible to that version?

Possibly, the 'upgrade' patch may work.. KB 3035583.

thanks for the links... nothing pointing to where to actually get the guts to install just 1607 on its own that I can find, yet. seems to me if you download an "install tool", which then gets the actual installer, and that installer can be changed to suit the providers wants (as in m$)... then they are going to give you the version they want you to be on, now. in other words, they don't want us picking and choosing which version we like anymore. it always seemed like you wanted the latest service packs in the past, but does not seem to have that feeling anymore?

the quest will continue.

Unless you get an ISO of windows 10 v 1607 from a friend, torrent etc, that is the only way to get it. No chance from M$. I have downloaded 1709 and used it to recover and update - it works fine if you do it this way otherwise going through windows 10 update = a hosed system. also you cannot get KB for windows 10. You have to update through windows update or recover/reinstall using an iso/usb from M$ media creation tool.

(I updated via windows update to the fall creators 1709 - this hosed my main system by causing boot from cold taking over 30 minutes and leaving no desktop icons. I downloaded win 10 1709 using the media creation tool on another windows 10 machine and used it to reinstall on my main system (also upgraded from a 1Tb HDD to a 240Gb SSD). Reinstall took 15 minutes (the joys of having an FX-8320 and 32Gb of RAM). Reinstall of programs and utilities about 30 mins. Lot better than windows 7 reinstall.)

M$ also roll out the updates on when they deem your system is suitable rather than straightaway to stop their servers getting hammered...

Oh hell my system has found the April update to 1803.... Byeeeeeee!

It is safe. I am posting from it. At the moment I don't have time to dive deep into the vowels to see what they broke/fixed this time. If I find anything interesting I will post.
