Went to download photo's from my digital camera and got a pop-up notice saying the msvcr120.dill file is missing. I opened CMD prompt and see my name there. I typed in sfc /scannow hoping to run a scan and have the missing file replaced but it returned the following message "you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility"

I thought I was the administrator of this laptop but seeing that this laptop came from Sager Computer I am wondering if I may not have full administrator privileges ? I also opened a folder using Run lusrmgr.msc and it shows a folder with different privileges etc. This is an area that I need some help with. How do I make my name full a full administrator if I am not already it? Something is not set right.

Thanks...................

open up the run menu, type "cmd", when the command prompt shortcut becomes available right-click on it and choose "run as administrator".

you could be the admin, but it won't execute it with elevated rights until you specify it.

Roach,

This is a Windows 10 Pro x64 O.S. I don't see any option to run as administrator after the cmd prompt ?

Up-date:

OK I see how to do it. I ran the sfc /scannow and after it completed it said Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was not able to fix some of them. Now what? The scan refereed me to a log file that is a mile long.... Could it be the msvcr120.dill file they are talking about ??

Now what ????

with Win10, I would suggest going to a specific site on running SFC. there's a few things with Win10 that I'm not familiar enough with to go much deeper...

the msvcr file is a Microsoft Visual C Runtime file..
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 9ba?auth=1

As far as running command prompt/dosbox as Administrator

find it one of two ways...
Start Menu -> Accessories OR in the the search box type cmd
Right click on the icon which will bring up the menu where you should easily see "run as Administrator"

I found how to access Safe Mode, big difference that in XP.

The SFC scan said it found corrupted files and was not able to repair all of them. I ran the scan several times and rebooted between them, still the same. I checked the link you gave but its quite heavy. I doubt that I can do it.

Can someone tell me if this missing file was an original component of the Windows 10 operating system or that of a component of a program I installed. I remember uninstalling something I didn't recognize in the list of programs in the Control Panel?
