I was so close to throwing this pc in the dumpster.
However, I obtained a 3rd WinXP os cd a few hours ago.
For whatever strange reason, the first two cd's failed to boot.
This one booted, and I finished the install process.
I'm now downloading SP3. Yeah!!!

Hope it is successful. Were those other optical disks showing a full hologram image on the non-data side? If not, they likely were not authentic.
The IE version with XP may not be honored by a lot of Web sites. Better to go with Firefox or other browser type.
After SP3 is installed, expect hundreds of security updates.. if still available! PDT_Armataz_01_19

i actually ran into similar issues, but when trying to install using a win7 disc - my old (trusty) dvd drive wouldn't install right. i bought a new (ultra-cheapo) replacement drive and it read it perfectly and installed with no issues.

no clue why.
