Windows 7 "Unsupported Standard Game Port" message

Postby OneSpirit » Tue Nov 15, 2011 10:03 pm

Hi everybody. I installed my Flight Simulator program on window 7 ultimate ... I realize win 7 doesn't support the game port and it doesn't see my analog flight stick.
The Device Manager is happy ... no ? or ! and it claim the device is working properly, with the most updated driver yet it is "unsupported" does this mean there is no driver to get 7 to support the game port? My audio device is a CMI8738/C3DX PCI.
I won't be able to use the game port with windows 7?

Microsoft discontinued game port support with Windows Vista.

i thought i had seen that people got (at least) the microsoft force feedback joysticks to work through a gameport in Windows 7... there was no force feedback anymore, but the basics of the joystick were useable.

i would recommend checking out forums specifically for that game, or maybe even for that joystick.

The "playing field" for games has mostly migrated to the dedicated console.. and the PC platform is almost abandoned. Economics rule with any company.. sell the product that brings the most profit.. with the least overhead. The X-box and Kinect gaming platform, as well as PS2, Wii and others, are the dominant attractions now.
The "legacy" features such as com ports, game ports and other features are being abandoned. And with them, older gaming devices. The XP OS still has a few years of extended support.. so enjoy while it is still around. I maintain an old system with Win 98, for its pure command-prompt mode, for older games that won't run properly or at all with newer OS versions and high FSB speeds.
F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes!

this is what i was thinking of:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... d1a9871a2f

excuse the all-caps...
TRY INSTALLING LIKE YOU DO FOR VISTA
KEEP AN EYE IN DEVICE MANAGEER UNDER SOUNDS NEAR GAMEPORT AN UNKNOWN APPEARED
MANUALLY INSTALLED SIDEWINDER AUTO DETECT THERE
RETRIED CONTROLL PANEL IN THE GAMEPORT ICON AND IT INSTALLED
GAMES NOW RECONISE THE JOYSTICK AS FORCE FEEDBACK ( BUT FORCE FEEDBACK NOT WORKING) ALL CONTROLS WORK, FEEDBACK NOT. MAYBE MY JOYSTICK AS HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR YEARS

Got it together

Postby OneSpirit » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:35 am

Hello folks ... You guys may remember the thread I had about getting my analog ch pedals to work and buying that manhattan usb adapter. It won't work for the pedals but it will work with the ch flightstick.

Now the programs themselves (2002 and 2004) are acting goofy so I have to take that problem up with the folks over at the flight sim form.

Thanks alot for the posts :)
