Operating system files?

Postby CivilDissent » Thu Jun 09, 2011 8:16 am

I was not sure where to put this question so, moderators, move this where it might need to go if this is the wrong place.......sorry.

Anyway, I have 9 hard drives scattered all over my system, most for just plain storage as I have lots of images and such from travelling so much.

So, one of the hard drives, a huge one, is completely packed with just a few folders with long random names such as 7e6fefd37fb9002e3f4859fda3a5b2 and the such. There are 3 of these long named folders and just 3 others like Windows ImageBackup and a file called MediaID.bin.

These folders, and file, grow immensely each day and have eaten up a whole 172 gig hard drive.

I am losing whole hard drives because of stuff like this.

What are these folders? Do I need them? How can I free up some space before they eat up my whole computer?

They say that I do not have access to them. Weird.

They are os files, delete them by running disc cleanup on that drive, tick all the boxes...

They will not hurt the OS that I am currently running?
