Hi,
I have been trying to flash my BIOS in the hope that I can format a 60Gb Maxtor HDD which I bought recently...Obviously without thinking that my BIOS wouldn't support it.

When it gets to the stage where I input the BIOS file name it just hangs and the only way to restart is to remove the mains adapter in the back of the machine.

I am trying to install an Award BIOS over an AMI one (i've read that this is ok ?)
The BIOS came from the manufacturers website and is the latest version for my motherboard.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... hp?UID=105

Is it possible for someone to help determine if...
1/ It's the right BIOS ?
2/ What i'm doing wrong?

I guess the following info would be useful...

The Motherboard is an MSI 6119
A6119P2
V1.83
BIOS Date: 07/08/99
BIOS Type: American Megatrends
BIOS ID: 61-0708-001169-00111111-071595-440BX
Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 2
Superio: Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h

TIA.

Tried the latest AMI Bios from the list ? > Scroll to the bottom .
Flashing to Award should be possible but first you have to determine whether you have the CPU Plug and Play or Standard 6119 .
PnP is Settings in Bios and Standard is with DIP-switches for CPU settings .
What is the revision number of your 6119 ?

It is definately PnP, but i'm not sure whether using the AMI version is going to solve the problem as they seem to be quite old....whereas the latest Award BIOS supports large drives.

AMI corrected Bigger size HDD BUGs much earlier than Award so your chances are good to get your HDD to work .
If this Bios is not working then try to flash to Award PnP Bios .
