Let's play a game! Who can find me a BIOS update first? ;-)

Postby koremore » Thu Aug 29, 2002 7:49 am

Hello again. Thanks to the kind people in this forum, I've identified my mystery motherboard without problem. However, I do neeed the latest BIOS for it.
It's made by Dataexpert, model EXP8661 Version 1.0.

BIOS string = 51-0615-001107-00111111-071595-82430VX-H

Thanks in advance for any and all help. :)

I've got that very same bios listed as latest released bios for that particular board.

DataExpert seems to have stopped operations without releasing a newer version...

Version 1.11:
http://www.zdnet.de/treiber/interstitia ... 1AMI11.ZIP

Version 2.2 (not sure if this will work on your board)
http://www.zdnet.de/treiber/interstitia ... 61AW22.ZIP

All dated 05.07.01 - might be the upload date though.

I admit it, I made a mistake...

I honestly figured the BIOS update linked above (v2.2) would work on my board; but I was wrong. Mind you, this board isn't the world to me, but I would like to get it running again. What exactly happens when you flash your BIOS with the wrong one? What are my options now? Must I find a new BIOS chip and install it, or is there still hope for me?
Note that since the "new" BIOS was written, I no longer have any video display, (tried rotating slots for the card), and there are no beep codes. The only thing I can tell you is that upon boot, the board access the floppy drive and leaves the light on continuously. However, I'm certain that the floppy cable is in the correct way.

Another one is Badflash. They can help you there aswell.

You could try Hotflashing the BIOS. I don't really know too much about this method except that you need another working system to do it. Check http://www.wimsbios.com in the forums for more information

I actually don't have bookmarks Evasive. I memorize everything. The hotflash links are pretty new (haven't really looked into it much), and usually bios stuff I point people to wimsbios.

HOTFLASH method a SUCESS!!!

HOTFLASH method a SUCESS!!!

YEE HA! And wow, what a blast it was doing it too! I've learned a lot, knowing how to hotflash BIOSes will aid me down the road, no doubt.
So I know that the 2.2 BIOS posted above won't work with this board now, and I'm pleased to say that I'm running v1.1 of the BIOS without errors. The whole reason that I wanted to get a newer BIOS anyway is no longer necessary - the board runs my 166 MMX chip fine - even though it doesn't officially support it, it does

A big thank-you to evasive for posting the URL.

Cheers!
