Need help with BIOS

Postby konableurocks » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:31 pm

I recently purchased a CX 750W and a GTX 970 for my Acer Predator G3620 hoping that it would be an elegant upgrade to my systems GT650. I received the package and proceeded to install the card and the PSU. I fired her up and heard a beep sequence that EVGA translated to the motherboard not being compatible with my Acer ipimb-ar motherboard. They said to search for BIOS updates. The only problem is that I don't know how to upgrade a BIOS or let alone find an upgrade. I've gone to Acers site and American mega trends not understanding what either of the sites. Can someone please help?

Surprised no one has replied to your query as yet.
Was not easy to find a specs link for that Acer G3620, from Acer itself, but did find one elsewhere.. http://www.cnet.com/products/acer-preda ... -tb/specs/
And of the GTX970.. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop ... ifications
Did some browsing, and there are a few other similar instances where a motherboard would not accept the card.
I do note that the motherboard has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot, where the GTX970 is PCI Express 3.0.
But the GTX970 should be backward compatible between standards, and the G3620 should be forward compatible.

Have you connected both 6-pin power sockets on the card to mating leads from the PSU? Is the card seated fully in its slot, and that slot being the primary one?
Doubtful you will need a new BIOS version. A BIOS update must be the same family as original, or other problems can arise.
F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes!

Seems the last only non special designation BIOS offered is the P01_A2 version.. They do offer a P11 version but specifies "BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)".

did you get anything on the screen when booting with the EVGA card? some systems especially OEM's tend to flub up the BIOS and lock features. For instance to prevent installing new devices like video cards.
