Thank you very much for verifying it works with a disk larger than 64GB, what make/model is that disk?

Windows 98 does not natively support NTFS. You can reformat the drive with FAT32 if you want to do so. FAT32 is supported by both windows 98 and windows XP.

It is a Maxtor DiamondMax 20 with 80GB.

I did not convert to FAT32 because I had some hope to use the hard disk 'as it is' including the Win XP system. But meanwhile I gave up this (silly) idea.

Sorry for my late answer, I could not access the motherboards page for weeks, always got error 404.

Windows XP usually needs to be reinstalled if you transfer a harddisk between 2 different systems. Unless you are lucky enough the installed mass storage controller drivers work with the controller the disk is connected to.
