MSI Sucks.....

Postby Mr T » Sun May 16, 2004 7:54 pm

Well as someone decided to start an 'Abit Sucks' post (BW  ), I thought I would start an MSI sucks bit, so come on folks, give us your bad/good/bad experiences with MSI... Also known as boomerang boards 'cos they always return (hah! I bet you haven't heard me say that one before).... There board colours are ghastly, poor build quality, picky on RAM and video cards, making them pretty unreliable.. Odd how all the repairs that come through our shop that are packard bell (a lot) and require a board repalcing are ALL MSI boards....

So lets have a good MSI bashing session....

One redeeming feature is a reasonable web site..... 8O

I've been wondering about MSI. Fry's Electronics uses them, ECS and PCChips and Shuttle boards in the combos that they sell.

I've used three MSI boards so far,
their quality is never sub-par.
Abit rhymes with @%IT, there's a reason for it
and that's why MSI is the star. 8)
If it ain't broke, don't let me touch it!!

It takes ABIT to make a byte,
but what we want to know...
If Asus is a better board
on which to spend some dough.

MSI is said to suck.
It has its faults I'm sure.
But is it just another one,
with problems to endure?

Watch this thread and you will see,
no end to all this fuss.
Our habits and our preferences,
will always divide us.

I think the real problem here,
is you mentioned Packard Bell.
For that we ought to send you off,
straight to computer hell.

Personally, I think Abit and MSI both make good boards. I have an Abit board and an MSI board that are based on the same chipset and have nearly identical features. They are both very stable. The only semi-serious problem I ever had with the MSI board was that there was some setting in the BIOS that I managed to mess up that made the machine get quite sluggish. I set the BIOS back to the default settings, changed the settings necessary to enable maximum performance, and it has been working fine since. The Abit board never had a problem like that, but Abit hasn't updated the BIOS as recently as MSI, causing it to not support some of the newer CPUs that the MSI board supports. Also, both boards have worked with all of the video cards and cheap memory I've ever put into them.

I like the Abit board "a bit" better, but the MSI is quite good, too.

As I've said before, I have no beef with MSI. I recommend them as a cheaper solution if they don't want the extreme quality and power that comes with an ABIT  . I'd recommend them over Asus and Gigabyte and such anyday. But, ABIT stays first.

Edit: I'll rhyme too

I have no problem with MSI,
With them I have no beef,
They have good quality,
But ABIT is still chief.

While searching for the best of boards
My head I beat
A poll at motherboards
Turn me to Abit.
It is the best most said
for performance and features
Wolf and others disagreed
Time will tell whose right

With the majority down my guts
I cry to my last breath, MSI sucks.
