I hate Aopen CDrom players

Postby evasive » Tue Aug 19, 2003 3:54 pm

back in 1999 we had the issue with a 6-speed blue-screening in windows NT 4
recently I had a 32-speed not able to install windows 2000. A 40-speed (non-Aopen) worked flawless (I had tried three different 32-speed Aopens by then)

Just a moment ago I discovered my brand-new shiny Aopen 52-speed is not able to install server 2003. A NEC 52-speed (one dollar more expensive) does the job as I type.

I've had it completely with Aopen when it comes to CD-drives in whatever shape or form.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

What happens when you fool me thrice.

I tend to stay away from companies that have burned me once, let alone twice. Although I do keep shopping at Best Buy, even though their customer service sucks A$$. (all those lovely electronics)

True, espically with the prices of some computer equipment, if it fools me once I do not buy it again. Thats why i don't buy asus. I had p 150 adn the board decided die, for no reason iw was told at the time, i bought a cheap "red Fox" mobo which never gave me a problem, until some cheap power supply i had went and blew one of the heat regualtors ont eh board, HJ still laughs about that now.

Hey, the other might have been abused, they were school systems. But this is a lesson well-learned. Time for an RMA.

That raises a good point I've always believed that CDroms should not be Titled and judged by their speed as the number 1 focus (eg I have a 52 X samsung) but by their ability to read/write (not speed of read but quality/accuracy)....especialy scratched or dirty discs....speed should be a secondary factor when purchasing a CDrom but unfortunately there are no ratings for read accuracy/quality

So, on a budget, it seems I'm limited to NEC or LG (seen too much trouble with Samsung CD-players reading recordables).
