if that's what you want...

I got my prices from price watch.

I wasn't using 512mb.

Since most AMD board have 3 memory slots and some only 2; if you want to maximize the life of the system you will have to expect to upgrade the memory, therefore 1gb memory isn't the lavish expenditure it would at first seem.

a max'ed ddr system with 2 slots will hold 2 1gb totaling 2GB @ $700

I haven't sold any p4 systems as yet, but my understanding was most of them come with four slots that need to be filled in pairs (am I mistaken in this?)

a max'ed rambus system with four slots will hold 4 1gb sticks totaling 2GB
@ $6000 (seems speed does cost)

There are more people who own computers who are not hobbists than are.
They don't want to replace there pc every 18mo. or 2 years. So I while I wouldn't have all my clients start with 1GB if prices aren't low I would have them plan on eventually upgrading to it to avoid early retirement of their system.

Ok I'm not getting into a pissing match here, so I will conceed, but let me get this last dig in. 4slots(512mb)=2gig or 4 slots(1gig)=4gig........$6k???, granted I haven't checked the 1gig chips, but I want to smoke what you've been smoking cuz its good, if 4 sticks of 512mb ram costs $6k, I'm in the wrong business. I guess I'm looking at the wrong lists at pricewatch. Oh, and one other thing, the new P4 boards supporting the new 32bit rambus only need one stick now, sorry not sure what that costs per stick, but hey I'm sure they have it at pricewatch, and if its $6k I'm buying stock. Its been good debatiing with ya, I love a good debate, I hope u do too. 8)

I vote for Pentium. It's all that I will use, and buy the way Soyo is building great P4 motherboards now that use DDR memory.
