All politicians will tell you what you want to hear just to get your vote, problem is getting them to keep their word is a different ballpark altogether.
where I come from we have just got a new government with a party that has never been in power up until now and the way they are going looks like they may collect a few more seats from the previous bigwigs

:( Just think, the top 10 percent paying 70 percent have no vote. In this country the lower/middle class outnumber the upper class by far. They have most of the votes to send those to Washington that says "vote for me and I will bring lots of goodies to you and I will TAKE it from the well to do".
It's a shame that we have found out how to get the government to take from those that have little or no vote (the top 10 percent) their earnings for congress to ultimately do with whatever they want.
You haven't seen anything yet. Lennin had it right. Get the working class against the rich and you can take their largess for yourself.

Its income redistribution any way you look at it. The more you distribute, the more the ones' getting it want. Its a runaway situation and is never going to end, sadly.

The real problem develops when over 50% of the voters are confiscating earnings from the most productive voters - and policy becomes based on simply taking more money in hopes of getting more for the unproductive. Worse yet, it leads to irresponsible voting.

Also, once it starts, taxing becomes a burden on society - not only taking resources that could be spent or invested and blowing them on administrators (the Government is not very effective at utilizing a high percent of resources collected, much benefit is simply dissipated by PORK to repay contributors and administrative expense). The other problem is that we are quite capable of choking our own resources to the point of constraining productivity and self-sufficiency.

Consider the 'Energy Tax' (and associated restrictions on use of energy). While conservation always makes economic sense, artificial restrictions based on political excuses to confiscate resources can actually make a problem worse. The only thing that Taxing Energy will do is to punish energy users and drain potential from the free market to grow and prosper.

For example, Offshore Drilling. Argument is to restrict such development for environmental reasons (but since we can only regulate ourselves, we'll end up paying other Nations to do what we refuse to do). Also, we may easily be misguided regarding what might actually be best for the environment (especially where discussion is considered 'bad', although we all can agree that pollution is bad - I personally don't buy in to CO2 as a 'pollutant', CO, NOx, SOx, Particulate contamination, etc. makes sense - but we really can't discuss it because the topic is 'forbidden').
We can't discuss how our economy might be able to grow and prosper, because we would be seen as 'racist' 'astroturf' 'radcals' - let's start with Offshore Drilling for Petrol:

Or a recent issue (again, considered 'politically incorrect' and 'not an issue' by leadership and media), Global Warming (and how much do we need to pay to 'buy' a more perfect climate):

But none of this will be on PBS, CNN, CBS, NBC, or most Government-controlled media (interestingly, Austrailian News sources seem more inclined to actually investigate and report the controversy)... hey, we've already been told there's no problem, right ?

How the Government can grab more Money (from 'average' wage earners) - after all, you want to loan the Government money intrest free, oops, we weren't asked:

'Cash-flow trick': Congress tinkers with withholding rate
Gives government interest-free loan until current-year taxes filed in 2011
http://biggovernment.com/2010/01/06/dem ... -for-2010/

Word to the wise - if your Refund for 2009 is over $1000, add at least 1 to deductions you are claiming on your W4 (to offset increased withholding) - of course most taxpayers will simply leave their W4 as it was (and wonder why their paycheck shrunk).

Is CO2 really 'the problem' ? It seems not...

Global warming is a religion -There was an explosion of life forms 550 million years ago (Cambrian Period) when CO2 levels were 18 times higher than today
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=121740

Fortunately we don't still have Ice Age climate... but even if we all jump up and down at once, would we affect the Earth's orbit ? I also doubt that we are affecting climate - but especially that we can 'buy' our way out of any effect if there was one.
