Peeve of the Day - First Volley - ASCII art(sic) handles

Postby MoboCop » Mon Jun 03, 2002 12:59 pm

You know it really chaps my hide when I see one of these names.

\\ -- kInG kNuCkLeHeAd -- //

It must be a real pain in the rear to have to type out that moniker.

It sure it a pain in the butt to read them.

I mean come on, it may have been cool 5 years ago or try 10 years ago when BBS's were all the rage for pumping up our geekiness.

Does anything do a better job of saying HEY I AM 12 and I think I am really cool. CHECK ME OUT(I know where the shift key is)!

Now if you really want to get me started send me one of these sigs that also contains weird foriegn characters that you have to look up the damn ascii code to use.

editor's note: Ok now for those of you who
actually use this type of handle, please bear
in mind that I am just playing around and
having some fun. Feel free to blast me back
for having a stupid AKA like MoboCop and for
having an even dorkier logo. This peeve is not
aimed at anyone specifically I am just poking fun
at something I think is funny. And I may be exagerrating
just a tad (or not).

Yes I remember the days of calling myself: |\|o\\'here ['v']an :D
New to the whole World Wide Web thing and seeing all the script kiddies, my perception of "cool" on the internet was somewhat distorted.

I used to be £ord Çhaos on some WWIV, renegade, and other misc BBS's. I even remember when RIP graphics was supposed to "totally replace ANSI/ASCII"

Where I used to have to figure out the ALT + keypad combinations, now all you have to do is open character map. I still prefer the former...

What I don't like is the 733T or whatever crap that is. "Yes I'm so 'Leet, it takes a forever to decrypt one of my sentences!"

mobo cop if you hate them so much, then why not just send emails to those with those types of names requesting them to removing the ASCII stuff from their name/sig

BTW when climbing on Yosemite, do you bring a laptop with a wireless connection just to monitor the website? I at least have a cool cell with web capability to ease my boredom on long drives.

I do not really care all that much I was just bored...

well no I do NOT take any computers when I go climbing that is the whole point. Taking a day or two where I do not even touch a computer is a good thing.

I do have web access on my phone but I usually leave the phone in the car once I am climbing (except extended pitch stuff when I keep it around for emergencies).

As for driving, I drive too fast to not pay attention.

I can understand that, I never take a computer or phone when I go scuba diving. Although its practically impossible to use a computer underwater anyway.

you thought wrong. I have a fairly quick ride and I like to go fast.

I had an interesting drive Friday night on the way up to yosemite.

It was raining and a major electrical storm was raging overhead, so I put the top down and turned on the brights and zoomed up as fast as I could.

the amazing thing was the rain never came into the car (the top was down) and me and my friend could only feel the rain on our foreheads.
