High CPU Utilization - Crucial Ad

Postby pa3lsvt » Mon Jan 03, 2005 4:06 pm

Anyone else notice high CPU utilization when browswing the forums here? I'm running at 50 - 75% with just one tab open in Firefox. Unchecking Play and/or Loop when I right click the ad doesn't do anything to lower the CPU demand. Going to any other website fixes the issue.

It interferes with running just about anything else, but most noticably my PCTV Pro (software compression) TV capture card - I lose synch with video and audio b/c the Crucial ad hogs all my CPU cycles.

Seeing as I have an XP2500 OC'ed to 3200, and a 6600GT AGP vid card, with 512 MB DDR400, I can't be the only person that notices this - it must choke lesser rigs; otherwise I must have something set wrong to allow the Flash ad to get so much CPU time.

Mine isn't doing that at all, shows Firefox using between 0 and 2 percent of the CPU. My system also isn't all that great, P4 2.4ghz GeForce 4 TI 4400, a gig of PC2100 RAM. Maybe a problem with Firefox and the Flash plugin. You have the latest versions of both?

I dont have this problem.

You might want to test it a bit more.

Try right clicking ad and unchecking play. See if that changes it.

I would also check for spyware and/or viruses.

I remember a couple of months ago someone else had a similar problem with an add here because of all the resources it used.can't find the old thread though.

Running at 3% with this page open and the ad showing. Not sure what is happening to yours. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

It's happening to me, too (right now in fact); Opera is using between 50 and 99% CPU time (Celeron 1200 laptop) when browsing the motherboards.org forums. It doesn't always happen; my guess is that it's related to the Crucial ad, like others have said. I tried updating the Flash plugin, but that didn't seem to help much if at all.

try right clicking on the ad and unchecking play and see if that makes a difference?

Using IE I have never seen such a thing.
