No Joke spam message!

Postby Pette Broad » Tue May 04, 2010 4:52 pm

I'm not happy with the "No Joke" popup every time I enter the forums. Really cheap and tacky. Are the owners that desperate for funds that they have to resort to spamming us now?

What popup? I've never gotten one..........

*edit* correction, I just got one on the Folding Team forum. The ad banner at the top of the page isn't what it's supposed to be, I just noticed that either it doesn't load, or when it does, it's some wierd sporting gear ad, or (right now) Livestrong gear. Definitely not what Doc ordered...........this has been happening on other sites lately, as well. Half of these things set off Avast on me.

"Fantastic! This is no joke! You are our visitor number 1,000,000"

"You have been randomly selected as the possible EXCLUSIVE WINNER.
Main Prize: A brand new MINI" >>CLICK HERE<<" (Aldaniti International)

I'm getting these at the top of the forum page. Maybe they're only spamming U.K members. This is the sort of rubbish that you associate with dodgy sites.

NoScript works, too. Half the ads aren't even loading for me in IE anyway, I can deal with a random popup now and again, they're not malicious. Just annoying as heck. One pet site I go to has the same type of service, in three different spots on the page, top, right side vertical, and left side square, when all three of them are showing Iams ads, it's impossible to see the page. Clear one super-expanding ad out, another one pops up somewhere else, you wind up spinning the mouse in circles for ten minutes.

Pop-up ads are SPAM! Those that note you are the "winner" for being so-and-so number are blatantly false. Likely a thousand viewers will see that message, and take the bait! And with some nasty pop-ups, even when you tic that "[X]" box, the insult continues to a "buy me" page!!
I seldom see pop-ups, as I have FF set to block all.
The advertising managers don't check ads as they should.. and thus annoy site members! Someone is not doing the job they were hired to do!
F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes!

Relax. I sent an email off, it's a known issue that will be resolved shortly. Just a downtime between ad promotions.
