Postby cdr560 » Fri May 31, 2002 11:23 am

Whats the deal is the P4 Northwood 2.0 GHZ 512 L2 Cache .13 micron 400FSB better than the AMD XP 2100+

I can get them both for about the same price so whats better?

It's really up to you. Intel cpu's are stable and reliable, AMD's are faster for the same speed. I myself prefer AMD, but I hate everything that's even close to a monolopy, so just disregard my opinion. :D

Examine the other issues: motherboard and memory (cost and availability).

Try the recommendations forum, there's a good chance you'll find a comparison there.

Sometimes AMD chips can be a bit flakey upon installation, and they require cooling like you wouldn't believe, where as the P4s are pretty much Plug and Play. My P4 took no time at all to build.

AMD doesn't take too long to build either, but the heat factor is one thing. Just gotta go aftermarket heat sink if you plan on overclocking. 2 case fans are always recommended.

The XP's are better than the T-Birds. The Thoroughbred should be another step in the right direction too. But only time will tell...
