Woah, dated? I guess my 1600+ is ready for Social Security! :)

2200-2300+ seems to be as high as the faithful Palomino core can go, so AMD is quite due to release the next Athlon upgrade.

The "Thoroughbred" is just a .13 micron version of the Palomino (Current Athlon XP). Just like the Wilmamette P4's were .18 micron, and the new Northwood P4's are .13 micron. Smaller size = faster possible speeds.

From what I've read, only KT266x and KT333 chipsets will be able to support the new Thoroughbred.

After Thoroughbred, comes "Barton" :?: , which will supposively have a larger L2 cache and the same .13 micron architecture.

In case you are also thinking of the new 64-bit Hammer series chips (clawhammer(mobile) and sledgehammer). The Hammer series are now called the Opteron series. These chips have almost twice the pincount of previous Athlon's, 940 pins on the sledge hammer, vs 462 on the Athlon.
