I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem with xp and dial up. Every time i disconnect, my system hangs and sometimes freezes. I can actually connect faster with XP than with ME but once i need to disconnect, it freezes my computer.

Check to see if there are updated drivers for your modem that are XP compatible. 8)

For my curiousity, do you use Microsoft messanger and .net strategy software running in the background? Also were you in secured connection and did not log out when you disconnect?
