Do you guys realize the 4x4 AMD platform using AMD FX-74 chips is not 8 cores?
Doc says oh no your kidding of course we knew idiot!!
You used 8 cores from Intel vs 4 cores from AMD and the results where obviously in favor of Intel in a review like this. But it does show promising results as the AMD wasn't really that far behind regardless of having half the cores.
My hope is they keep this 4x4 around and update it so that I can put 2x Phenom quad core chips in it and really have an 8 core AMD powered machine.

Hey Guy the Phenom is slow as crap.....

for now :)
if they fix there manufacture process and release the 3-3.4ghz like I'm waiting for and if all the hype about them turns out half good. Then just maybe I will get one.
Else if they are total shit eve after a lil release time. well in a case like that, I have so much saved up that a killer Intel system will be mine.
but I was just posting to see if they knew that and AMD 4x4 isn't a dual quad core :) it would be with quad core chips which AMD hasn't released as of yet.

Whats up with the cpu z on the AMD system? 1000 mhz. I use the 4x4 system you have but with opterons in it and its dam nice. I use it for folding and thats pretty much it lol.

Its that version of CPU=z, it showed right in the BIOS and in Windows as seen in the XP screen...
Memory bandwidth Author: drho
The STREAM benchmark used in Sandra or Everest is the best indicator of workstation performance and server I/O capability.
I'd love to see the sustained memory bandwidth for both the V8 and the Barcelona/Phenom.
My Quad FX-72 gives sustained memory bandwidth of > 14 GB/s running four threads. Haven't found anything else nearly as fast in the x86 market. Hope to find something significantly faster soon, but not holding my breath.
I highly recommend a sustained large memory floating point benchmark be added to your standard set, as this has been the most diagnostic benchmark for me for nearly 15 years. Started using it with the SGI Jurassic Classic.
Cheers, DRHO
