Today we are going to have a look at a product from Nesteq a German computer products designer, the ASM Xzero 500W power supply. What makes the Xzero unique is that although it has a cooling fan it only uses it when the internal temperature rises above a certain temperature, making it what we would call a semi-passive running unit. It also ships with a variety of distinct features which we will analyse thoroughly in our review today.

link

With the ongoing buzz of people worrying about the economy and their own funds, the term "low budget" is becoming used far more often. Today, we are going to be looking at AMD's Athlon II X3 435 processor. The Athlon II X3 435 has 1.5MBs of L2 Cache per core and is a 95W (45nm) processor. It supports all the same features found in the rest of the Athlon II processors (X2, X3 and X4 alike). However, AMD's larger aim is based on it's price point. With a amazing sub $90 price there should be no reason not to take a second look at the new Athlon II CPUs, especially if you are on a budget.

link

"The ASRock M3A785GXH128M uses a 4+1 Phase power design. While this might be a red flag for some, we were able to overclock a 140W Phenom II X4 965 to a vCore of 1.55v with just a simple 80mm fan blowing across the MOSFETs. With a BIOS made for overclocking and AMD's awesome OverDrive at our disposal we were able to squeeze an extra 500mhz out of our Phenom II X4 965 Black edition Processor. Even with bare MOSFETS we had no trouble cranking up the voltage to 1.52v. and were able to reach 3.9GHz!"

link

The power supply is the foundation of any computer. Without it, all that expensive, high-performance gear just sits idle. You can go without a case. Some people do. However, none of those bells and whistles are going to make a peep, if you don't have a power supply. Not only that, but you should never skimp on your power supply. I've seen more than a few computers taken out by a failing PSU. I've even seen one catch fire at a Lan Party I was attending. The site of a grown man crying isn't pretty. It is especially ugly when all of his friends are playing video games and making fun of him. This is the age of digital media and mass storage. Digital downloading is present in many homes via sites like iTunes and Rhapsody. Many people have digital cameras and high definition video cameras. We need massive storage capacities in order to save the large formats raw or in jpeg. Let's not forget about the large amounts of space these video camera video files can take up. You're going to need a place to keep all that data. That device is the Synology DS209 which we will be reviewing next.

link

"Kingston has just announced a new SSD drive, while that in itself isn’t that exciting as SSDs have been around for a while, the purpose of this particular drive though is different than others. The Kingston SSDNow V Series 40gb SSD is meant to be a boot drive only with the user putting their files, folders etc on a standard hard drive. The idea behind this is to speed up boot, shut down and the operating system overall, and I think everyone can appreciate that. What I got for review is the entire bundle, which is a kit that includes the SSD drive, rails for installation, cables and software to make the transition easier for the user. So continue on to see how it compares to other SSDs and standard hard drives… "

link

"After over a month and a half of daily use, the Samsung UN55B8000 can be summed up as a mixed bag of great and not so great characteristics. The first thing to mention and the distinguishing feature is the 1.2 inch depth profile. There is no consumer grade TV this side of perhaps an OLED display that at the time of this review is as thin as this model. The second is the color reproduction. This by a small margin has the best color reproduction I have seen to date. Couple these with the overall aesthetics and improved USB video, mp3 and photo functionality and at first you would think this is a touch down for Samsung. But hold on."

link

"As all good companies do, SteelSeries have taken one of their existing products, and made a series of improvements, upgrades and enhancements. The original Siberia headset, already a success, did have a number of flaws; perhaps the most notable of all was the microphone. The V2 should be able to put all this right as well as a few other bits and pieces. So can the Siberia headset be transformed from a good headset to a great one? It offers all the features of the K10.5 architecture, but comes with only a single core at 2.70 GHz.

"The build quality is excellent and the white LED lighting on the large chrome cooling fan will I'm sure, appeal to some enthusiasts with a liking for case lighting. The Sapphire Pure 1250W with its six 6+2 pin PCI-E connectors will easily power any SLI or Crossfire configuration using two or even three high-end graphics cards. We are starting to see the move away from devices with 4 pin peripheral (Molex) power connectors and the Sapphire Pure 1250W with only 6 of these and a massive 16 SATA power connectors reflects this trend. The modular cable connectors for PCI-E power on the Sapphire Pure 1250W power supply are 12 pin and with all the included cables utilised there is still one spare. Sapphire have pointed out in the enclosed literature that extra cables will be made available should any future developments require more than the 8 pin PCI-E connector and therefore avoid the need for a power supply upgrade."

link

Canon PowerShot S90 Review @ Digital Trends :: Posted by THRASHER2

"Canon recently introduced the PowerShot G11 ($499) and the S90 ($429), two high-end compact digicams generating huge amounts of online buzz. Both have similar, relatively-large 10-megapixel CCDs, but are targeted to very different photographers. Rather than focusing on the more expensive G11, a variation of the previously reviewed G10, we opted for the S90, a camera with several unique features you simply won't find among the 250-plus digicams currently available (although fans of Panasonic's LX3 might find some strong similarities). Let's see if that buzz is real, or Internet hype."

link

HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart Web Review

"HP already builds awesome all-in-one PCs featuring integrated touchscreens and custom programs designed to take advantage of that user interface. Now, the company is bringing that same expertise to its printer business with the Photosmart Premium TouchSmart Web. As with HP's TouchSmart computers, the touch-screen on this multi-function printer goes far beyond simple menu navigation. The device comes preloaded with a dozen Web-based applications that enable you to print everything from digital photos to maps, weather forecasts, and movie tickets without ever touching a computer. Too bad this product's photo-printing prowess isn't on par with its excellent text-print quality, deep feature set, and exciting innovation."

link

The product doesn't have any special name it's called the Wireless Handheld Keyboard and Touch Pad and it's from a company called EFO. This product is exactly as the name sounds, it's a keyboard and touchpad in one small device, about the size of a PDA, that will allow you lots of freedom when accessing your PC or HTPC.
Zoom Launches Q3 Handy Recorder Microsite www.soundmakesthemovie.com

A dedicated microsite will host movies shot with the Q3 by musicians like Orianthi, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian, Kenny Aronoff, Chad Smith, Peter Erskine, and Allison Robertson among many others…

Hauppauge, NY – November 2, 2009 – Zoom, makers of the new Q3 Handy Video Recorder, announced the launch of the new website www.soundsmakesthemovie.com dedicated to the growing Q3 community of musicians. The site hosts videos made by musicians in performance and rehearsal situations that showcase the Q3’s recording capabilities. Exclusive concert and backstage footage can be found there.

Featuring video from metal and rock performers Lamb of God, Shadows Fall and Shinedown to jazz musicians, Peter Erskine and Alan Pasqua, and even educational footage from USC’s Thornton School of Music, the site will continue to develop content from an ever growing list of artists and application.

“Who better to illustrate the Q3’s industry-first audio capturing capabilities than this amazing collection of accomplished musicians,” says Mark Wilder, Director of Marketing for Samson. “These guys demand the best in audio recording, and the Q3 captures it all in brilliant stereo.

The site will also deploy videos from a variety of artists from its playful print ads: like the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith with guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and Sammy Hagar, now currently on tour with Chickenfoot.

“Although we are entering the camcorder market,” says Wilder, “we are staying true to our roots by leveraging these impressive artists to tell the Q3 story - all while creating an entertaining promotional effort.”

Zoom’s new Q3 Handy Video Recorder sets itself apart from other handheld flash camcorders in a crucial area: sound. Employing the same high-quality condenser microphones as Zoom’s industry leading H4n Handy Recorder, the Q3 provides exceptional audio quality to complement its video. So it’s no surprise that some of the biggest names in the music industry have fallen in love with Zoom’s latest hit.

About Samson Technologies

Samson Technologies designs, manufactures and distributes high-performance audio, wireless and music accessory products in the United States and 106 countries abroad.
Motorola Droid Review @ Digital Trends :: Posted by THRASHER2

"Each new Android smartphone seems to improve on its predecessors. But Motorola's latest, the Droid from Verizon Wireless, is a veritable quantum leap well beyond recent peers such as the Samsung Moment and the HTC Hero, both from Sprint - and even the Motorola Cliq (available on T-Mobile). Thank three advantages that the Droid possesses over all other previous Android phones: Its gorgeous 400,000-pixel 16x9 3.7-inch LCD touchscreen, the largest available on a cell phone; the handset's status as the first to run the Android 2.0 operating system; and its pedigree as the first Android phone for Verizon, which arguably operates the nation's best 3G network. However, the Droid's superiority over recent rivals surpasses mere technical comparisons alone. This is one of the most solidly-built smartphones available, featuring a stolidity that lends it a gravitas lacking in all but the most boring BlackBerrys, yet belies the mobile handset's more playful side, which also makes a great impression. To put it simply, the Droid isn't the perfect choice for cell phone owners, but as iPhone alternatives go, it's pretty darn close."

link

"Many USB drives are small, plastic products which may provide high-speed performance at a low cost, but ultimately many are let down by their susceptibility to being dropped, stood on or lost. If you are careful, this may not be a problem. However, if you want to carry important backup information you need to be sure that your drive is going to survive some moderate damage and that you can encrypt the data easily. This is where the Corsair Survivor fits in, as it is a ruggedized USB drive that is water resistant to 200m and fits in an anodized aluminium capsule to give it extra protection."

link

I can't count how many times I've lost a Sandisk USB drive due to it's too small size or it went through the wash.

Corsair's product is extremely durable.

If you need to transport sensitive data without a physical loss, then this USB drive on the market is your only answer. It's like having your data stored in a USB time capsule that can be retrieved instantly and quickly.

I've got two of the 8Gb types. These are great for the money.

“ Thecus is a company whose products I’ve reviewed quite a few times now. Their high end Network Access servers can go toe-to-toe with anything. It was two years ago that I reviewed the first version of the N5200. Since that time the N5200 has run virtually 24/7/365, only being shut down maybe a dozen times. Either when I have moved it to new locations, rearranged cables or firmware updates. It has also survived 2 separate UPS failures. The 5200’s drives are sitting at 15731 hours and counting. I have not had a single issue with the 5200 since its review.”

link

AMD has retaken the crown for superior graphical power with their ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card, and consumers have confirmed that this is the hottest graphics accelerator of the moment. Armed with 1600 shader cores, the 40nm Cypress GPU claims to push video game frame rates well-beyond what NVIDIA offers from their GeForce GTX 285 counterpart. While the list of DirectX 11 video games has just started to grow, with one of the first being a free Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) named BattleForge. Perhaps ATI has created the perfect storm for their Radeon HD 5800-series by offering a price-competitive graphics card with several free games included or available. While NVIDIA toils away with CUDA and PhysX, ATI is busy delivering the next generation of hardware for the gaming community to enjoy. Sapphire factory overclocks the Cypress GPU and adds their own custom cooling solution, named Vapor-X. In this article Benchmark Review! s tests the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X video card 21161-03 against a cross-section of modern graphics accelerators.

link

"For a year now we have been talking about XvBA, which stands for X-Video Bitstream Acceleration and is designed to implement AMD's Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD2) engine on Linux systems for improving the video decoding and playback process on desktop systems. AMD has been shipping an XvBA library with their ATI Catalyst Linux driver since last year, but they have yet to release any documentation on the XvBA API or any patches to implement the support within any Linux media players. Heck, AMD has not even officially confirmed XvBA with Phoronix being the lone source of information for the past year. Today though, XvBA has finally become useful under Linux. But it is not what you may be thinking..."

link

"From the second we saw the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X graphics card we fell in love with it. The card stands out from the crowd and has a bad boy appearance to it that the reference card just doesn't have. The best part about the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X is that the cooler actually works. We witnessed an 8dBA decrease in fan noise and an insane 18C drop in temperatures while gaming. The small 2-4% factory overclock gave a slight boost in performance and in every single benchmark we ran the Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X was faster than a stock Radeon HD 5870 video card, albeit by only 1-6FPS depending on the benchmark in question..."

link

NZXT M59 Classic Series PC Case @ Bona Fide Reviews :: Posted by THRASHER2

" Today for review I’ve got another product from our friends at NZXT, this time it’s the M59 Mid-Tower Gaming Chassis. The M59 is a sleek looking case, I honestly really like the look and style of it, so much so that it has become the home for my gaming PC hooked up to my 47” HDTV. It’s small in size so it won’t stick out, but yet there’s plenty of room for hard drives and large sized video cards inside. NZXT has included a 2.5” to 3.5” hard drive adapter for those, like myself, that use SSDs for their computers. The M59 is nicely designed and fairly well made, but it’s not without it’s faults, it’s a budget case yes, so some faults are to be expected, but for a budget case it’s worth it despite the problems.. So read on to learn more…"

link

"Up on the review block today I’ve got a gaming headset from Zowie Gear called the Hammer. The Hammer is made for gaming specifically, and for gaming it works well, but if you’re looking for a headset that you can use for music and movies as well you might want to look elsewhere. The headset is nicely made with a large boom style microphone, long cables and even two types of ear pads are included.
Today we bring you the review of the latest and highly anticipated Corsair PSU; the TX950W. We reviewed many units of this series in the past, such as the TX850W and the TX650W, and they always were able to deliver an awesome price to performance ratio to potential customers. The company claims that the TX950W can deliver best-in-class performance at a very reasonable price.

link

Big computer systems require big power. Does your computer have multiple video cards? How about multiple hard drives? What about elaborate cooling and lighting? Maybe even “all of the above”? Well, you will need a power supply with a lot of watts to power all that gear. But what about the rats nest of cabling that a high wattage power supply is going to leave sitting in your case? A modular power supply may just be the solution you need.

link

VidaBox Wireless HTPC Media Keyboard with Laser Trackball :: Posted by THRASHER2

"The Vidabox wireless HTPC media keyboard comes with everything we needed to get up and running in seconds, which was nice. Having a driverless setup is nice for a mainstream product like this. The build quality was also not bad, while this keyboard is certainly no Logitech DiNovo it by no means feels cheap. The wireless connection was very consistent and worked flawlessly up to the 26 to 28 foot range from our testing. The 2000 dpi laser trackball worked great and we couldn't imagine using anything other than this. This is clearly a better product than the original VidaBox keyboards that came with mechanical trackballs! We also tried the keyboard out on our NVIDIA Ion powered mini-ITX HTPC that is running Windows 7 (shown above) and it worked flawlessly. Not too much more you can ask from a keyboard that costs just $67.77 plus shipping..."

link
