Re: Internet speed

It totally depends on your needs on whether you'll use it. Strictly speaking, most home users wouldn't need anything more than ~5Mbps in the current consumer market. High-use "digital" families probably will need at least 10+, probably closer to 20, in order to accommodate multiple user si...

Re: Internet Sales Tax.. Pro or Con?

Haven't thought too much about this - but, realistically it's not plausible for small businesses to manage inter-state taxation schemes. It would be more ideal to have a federal tax on internet sales - after which the feds could reallocate the taxed valuations directly to each state as per their tax...

Re: Best CPU for Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 3.0)?

The FX-8320E runs at a lower TDP (95w vs 125w) - but beyond that it's essentially the same thing. Your particular board supports both - some lower-end boards wouldn't support TDPs > 100w, hence the option to get an E version. A higher TDP will allow a higher overclock over base clock speed - which, ...

Re: FBI Warning: Reboot All Routers!

I have my modem and router connected to a digitally timed outlet - which does a one minute reboot every day at about 4:30am. Keeps it humming along nicely, highly recommended.

Re: Windows and After

I fully expect there will be an OS-as-a-service option in the future - but locals won't go completely away altogether. There are still considerable hurdles to simply "port" everything a local windows install can do to a cloud environment. You'll most likely need a new laptop before that be...

Re: Looking for a Lower-End PC...what upgrades are worth it?

I, personally, wouldn't get anything without 8gb or memory and an SSD large enough at least for the boot/OS drive. I'll never have a spinning drive again for my primary drive, and I'll never have less than 8gb of memory (12gb is really above most any non-gaming/rendering requirements) - it's just no...

Re: Calendar APP/PROGRAM for Windows that will stay sync'd c

MAC (and IP subsequently) spoofing is covered in first semester network security - MAC addresses traverse unencrypted and once known an intruder can spoof it and be on your network just like the device they've spoofed from.

Re: Calendar APP/PROGRAM for Windows that will stay sync'd c

my passwords are so complex as to be HACK PROOF and Mwhahaha and I use MAC filtering so hacking is impossible... anyway... nothing is impossible to hack...it's simply a matter of expending the time, energy, money, technology and knowledge to accomplish it. if somebody considers those things and det...

did you keep your old battery or replace it (how old is it also)?

just more for curiosity I guess - but, if not replaced I would be wary of another episode reoccurring.

Re: New setup for prof

I've refrained from spending much time on the newer items - but, the GPU pricing is being driven up (immensely) buy cryptocurrency farming. I bought an EVGA 1070 FTW edition over a year ago (11/2016) for $400 - the exact same card today is selling for $800 new, or $700 used. If you're truly interest...
