I can't give them away - who wants a crap PC? I hate the idea of dumping them. Hoarding them is what I do - but it's daft; they're not going to appreciate and they take up space.
How about building a multi CPU, parallel, super computer?

yeh, apart from that - I reckon the glogal warming created by powering inefficient and slow processors outweighs the benefits.Sabrewings wrote:http://www.motherboards.org/folding/index.html
(Folding is better on new machine that are left on for other reasons)

What to do with old PCs?
Like quite a few people here, I suspect, I seem to have accumulated lots of AMD K6 and PIII machines with 6mb hard drives and 64-128 (wow) RAM running windows 98 or 2000. They all work but they can't anything useful.
Anyone got any ideas about what to do with them?

Stupid thing to say but you have swopped out the cable just in case it was damaged when disconnected? Also try connecting to HDD2 on the motherboard having removed any CD/DVD drive first. As noted above, Deathstars are sh*te. It is possible to swop the electronics but it seems more likely to be mech...

How old is that motherboard? I had a few new motherboards lately that I've had to return because of problems with USB controllers (and onboard LAN issues). I've got to the point of returning mobos that don't show up working without issue in device manager first time - it always seems to be a hardwar...

IE7 now available
Sorry if this is old news but search didn't reveal any comments here on it.
I had to abandon IE7 beta as it upset my back-up programme but I'm using the release version now and it looks pretty good to me.
Anybody else?

Disapointing. It's a long shot and a nasty answer but the mobo could be bad. Two weeks ago I exchanged RAM in my main machine to test a problem I was having with another PC. I fixed the other PC but never got my old one to boot again. I had to do a like-for-like swop of the mobo. The only thing I ca...

I guess the reason you haven't changed out the PSU is because you haven't got a spare to play with? I always suspect the PSU first with restart problems - maybe I've been lucky but the 3 or 4 times I've had it it was always been cured with a decent PSU. The trouble with a flaky PSU is that it can ca...
