Re: Should I Upgrade?

Your system should be compatible, but what type of graphics is used? PCI is a bit obsolete, PCI-E is the current trend. If on-board graphics, might be compatible. But use this link to check compatibility. If using on-board graphics, allocate the 'video aperture' amount to no more than 25% of total s...

Re: Failing system

3.28 volts is a bit high for a CR2032 cell. 3 volts is nominal. Has to be tested under 'normal' load, otherwise a false reading. The BIOS battery is a redundant backup for when no power enters the PSU, and the +5 volt stand-by powers BIOS and CMOS needs plus other features. Waiting 3 minutes after p...

Re: Failing system

Moved your post to a more appropriate topic folder. First, check voltages at the main ATX power header. Any black lead is common to all. Voltages should be within 2% of rated, 1% is ideal. The -12 volt lead can be off by 3% and still be good. If the BIOS battery has not been changed in more than 2 y...

Re: Old - AcerPower 486SX - A hard nut to crack...

So it appears that your old Acer may not have an on-board 'parity' memory feature, and requires that the modules have that. Some older computers were designed that way. If it is working properly, so be it, and enjoy. Did find this other link about memory types for that old Acer system.. https://www....

Re: Old - AcerPower 486SX - A hard nut to crack...

We still have to settle the matter of correct memory modules for that system. What is required are single-density modules so the BIOS can properly ID and work with them, so too the OS or whatever system is on the hard drive. Until that issue is resolved, the system can stumble on trying to access th...

Re: Old - AcerPower 486SX - A hard nut to crack...

Several key options will get you into the BIOS pages, depending on BIOS type and design. Common is the [del] key when you see the first page of system info. Another common key is the [F2] within the same time limit as the system info is displayed. Other options were the [ctrl+alt+enter], [ctrl+alt+s...

Aretha Franklin.. R.I.P.

Re: MSata SSD not detectable with Award Modular BIOS V4.51PG

If you get a successful 100% clone to the new drive, then a major hassle with OS updates will be avoided. Likely more than 150 security and system updates to Win 95, more for Win 98. Those "KB" updates are not easy to obtain any longer. The Win 95 "A" version was 1995, the "...

Thanks for the tip on clearing that annoyance. Have the same problem with a printer program, had to take out 4 'start up' features. But if you use the printer, then the SysTray icon comes back.. and you have to "end task" on it! Some programs are like circus barkers.. touting beyond real n...
