If I were getting a new LCD I'd look at another Samsung for sure, I love the one I currently have. But there are a buch of others out there for cheaper that perform just as well as Samsung, customer support and price make a huge differance.

The best thing to do for current and future use would be to slipstream your current basic XP version to SP2. They will save from downloading updates in case of future installs.........;)

Linux (Ubuntu) is pretty nice, I dual boot with it and Windows XP Pro (for gaming). I'm getting to like Ubuntu better than Windows these days and the best part is that everything is free............;)

I'd opt for a new video card at the least, I'm running basicly the same card as you are and it doesn't have the power to push the newer games all that smoothly IMHO. Games like Bio-Shock, STALKER really load the card up. You might want to take a look at the new 8800GT or one of the new ATi/AMD cards...

The latest Distro of Ubuntu (7.10) loaded just fine on my system, I'm new at Linux as well, I found it extremely easy to setup and use. My rig isn't state of the art, but everything is fairly current...............

Do you have these all disabled?

q CPU Thermal Control
q C1E Enhance Halt State
q Intel Speedstep

As well as all the Spread Spectrum settings.

You also might want to look at your PSU, 500w might be a little small for everything you're running.

Those are pretty tight memory timing for that memory speed and voltage, you might want to try loosening them up a bit to 5-5-5-15 or so and give that a shot.

Last I've read is that the 8800GTS 320's are going to be EOL and will be replaced by the up-coming 8800GT at the end of this month, so who knows just how long they will stay in stock around the web. http://www.dailytech.com/Clash+of+the+Subtitans+AMD+and+NVIDIAs+Next+GPU+Offerings/article9180.htm ht...
