but i'm thinking power supply.

does installing in winxp compatibility mode ever work for printer drivers. i thought it worked sometimes?

knowing the last two digits on the first set of numbers in the string on the bsod would be helpful, and if there is any driver association too... turn off reboot at bsod.

i'd run hdtune on that hdd. even copying and pasting to a place on the same hdd shouldn't take that long for only 17 gigs.

what mode is the sata controller in? IDE, AHCI, Raid???

when you say moving files from one location to another, that means you are moving them to another hdd in the system? or copying and pasting ...

i'm curious how your ram worked in that motherboard with odd nmber of sticks. i was under the assumption you needed even numbers of sticks of ram if you went over 1.

Can't help with computers due to being several years "behind the technology curve".

all the basics still apply though! troubleshooting the basics is 3/4 of the battle.

what speed is the ram? ddr266, 333, or 400?
do you have the motherboard auto detecting the speed? maybe if you use one stick and set the ram speed lower than it's rating, you might get both sticks r ...

have you looked for bios updates for your motherboard? not sure if this is the answer, but possible.... can you give us the exact model number of your processor?
