It is good you have tracked down a fault it appears that capacitor failed explosively.

Sorry to hear your PSU is fried - I hope it is easily fixable.

It wont be the ram causing that problem but more likely to be some fault on the motherboard (e.g. MOSFETs fried into a closed state), ...
