there are different revisions of the cognac board and some will not use the new fcpga cpus.
the difference between the 2 rev is that 1 will only use 66mhz bus frequency and the newer will use both 66 ...

I recently scavanged an HP Pavillion 6535 and investigated the motherboard to find it is a Trigem Cognac.

If going back to RH 7.2 fixed it, wouldn't it be sufficient to just use the kernel from that distribution?

It's pointless trying to get a hold of ASUS. I don't think there is anybody home there. ...
