I recently turned an old WRT54G into a wifi repeater. Its re-broadcasting my signal from my Asus wireless connection.
Check this site out:

Your wifi router, once re-flashed with the new firmware, will connect wirelessly and re-broadcast wirelessly as well.

You could also try muffling it with a bit of electrical tape. But the external speaker connector should work.

I'd recommend flash drive or floppy over a CD. Just burn it using the regular windows format otherwise. And the BIOS writer for your motherboard.
Just follow the instructions to properly update your bios.

You will have to hard reset the device to factory defaults. Call HP and they should be able to direct you how.
