Re: Mother Board Members
I've had this one for three years now (i7 3770, 16GB ddr3 1600, 256GB SSD, just basic, workhorse gear.) I'll be moving in a couple of years, I expect this one to last at least that long with some minor upgrades, I'll wait until after the move to build a new one.

Re: Mother Board Members
Built in lifespan. Just about everything made these days is designed to wear out at a specific time frame, then it gets replaced with the newer, better model. Everything is designed to throw away. That's why Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc do so well. Take Dell, for example. decent machines, great specs, on-s...

Re: Odd laptop issue.
I'm planning on digging around both versions of Windows this weekend. I don't think it's Wi-Fi looking for a signal, this happens with other programs-whichever you try to open first, that aren't web related, like the control panel.

Re: Odd laptop issue.
Its the usual windows symptom of the operating system looking for upgrades - all the resources are put into that. Win7 is really bad for it. It takes a week or so to sort itself out and then settles down. in that case he has to deactivate the automatic OS upgrade Disabled already. All it does is no...

Re: Odd laptop issue.
I guess I could have been a bit clearer. It's not the laptop startup time that's the issue, both fire up to the desktop just fine. Mine's a bit speedier, with 8GB RAM, mom's has 4GB. Can't recall the speeds, but both are the same. Defrag was already done, this problem existed from the start. Did a c...

Odd laptop issue.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad, came with Win 7 HP, and my mom has an HP, also Win 7 HP. Both are running the same i5 dual core, mine has Intel HD graphics (4XXX, I believe) while hers has a dedicated NVidia graphics chip. Both suffer from the same issue - both start at about the same time (mine's faster s...

Re: how do i find same models with my motherboard?
Take your time taking that lappie apart Most have at least four screws under the keyboard, to start with. Karl's explanation is dead on, and I agree with Evasive that it's probably just as easy as up[grading the whole computer. I've personally never run across a "universal fit" part of any type in a...

I'm still here.....
...just been a busy few months. Getting ready for a week in WV visiting my sons, their respective wife and girlfriend, and my new granddaughter! Besides, Karl's been doing a bang-up job here. By the time I notice a spam message, Karl's already nuked it. Slow down, let us young un's have some fun!

Re: how many forum members does it take to change a light bu
I've seen a few vids of workers climbing cell phone towers. My favorite is the one with the helmet cam, looking down every so often. Bit of trivia here: OSHA does not require ANY safety equipment to be used, none at all. It would just get in the way, and could actually cause an accident. PDT_Armataz...
