the protect is the amplifier overheating or passing dc to the speakers.
bet you hear a click and lose all sound when it goes into protect.

i guess you are all too young to remember kalok/xebec drives. average time to death was 60 days. at least i was able to recover data for my customers by replacing the motor driver/stepper ic and running the drive in a fridge so i could copy it before the bearings got hot and locked up again! you will find the southbridge bad on that board. bad design. bet it died when you plugged in a usb device. i have seen a few of those with a no post but no visible bad caps turn out to be no vcore. the elite caps were open with no external signs. see a burst of trash on vcore at power up then nothin...
