What has me confused is the string in the filename... wxp is obvious and 1394 stinks like FireWire err.... IEEE1394 - is it using the wrong file or is the filename just a coincidence.... If it wasn't a UniChrome I'd suggest throw Linux at it, even just a live distro, but with spotty support for UC g...

BTW, managed to find a TravelMate from one of my suppliers... may need to wait a few days to get stock but seems ok . Only 2nd Gen i5, not 3rd, and a relatively old GPU, but that GPU is well regarded and probably better performance than anything I would get in the price range I'm considering. Plus a...

Acer I knew about, essentially they make their own, and stuff for others I know Foxconn made stuff for just about ev...

TBH, you are asking for too much from a single PC... Too many requirements pulling in too many directions. Even Grapics work and gaming will need different things from the GPU. High end GPUs from either field COULD do the work in the other, but they would not be perfect. There is generally a reason ...

First one is very basic but the other 2 seem interesting. 2nd one in particular, with UEFI BIOS, 125W CPU support, Iron Egg return policy.... $60 after rebate, free shipping. Hint: AM3+ is the CURRENT range of mod...

If you are in US or anywhere that you can easily and cheaply ha...

Nice, thanks for the replies, and good to see youn 2 are still active here. @Karl: - Not fussed (or even interested) in touchscreen and same for Macs. - ruggedness - not an issue - the unit will be "used here, then moved and used over there" not "used on the go" - small size, light weight and batter...

Notebook Recommendation

Hi all! Don't frequent these forums a lot these days, but still regard them as THE place to have good advice, from differing perspectives. After a loooong time, I find myself able to justify and afford a NEW notebook/laptop. My price range is about NZ$1000, which would fit a wide range. I think I wo...
