Re: Dropped USB External Hard Drive
So you have a 3.5" 'standard' drive in an enclosure, not the smaller 2.5" 'laptop' model in an enclosure. Big difference in weight there, but per Newton's Law, should not be much difference in speed of falling. But the extra weight takes a lot of inertia with it, and can land harder with m...

Re: Dropped USB External Hard Drive
Any hard drive that hits the floor can be damaged, if mechanical in design. The heavier the drive, the more probability of damage to the disks and heads. If the drive was operating at the time of the 'crash', then very likely serious damage. But if not working, possibly some damage. You note the USB...

Re: Looking for a reliable gaming laptop
Several good and reliable brands of laptops that are suitable for gaming. Search for "top 10" listings of gaming laptops. You should get at least 4 or more years from a good laptop, but may need new main and BIOS battery after 2 or 3 years. If the laptop has HDMI output, then an external m...

Re: The problem with USB 3.0........
For maximum data transfer speed, all components of the USB link have to meet the USB 3.0 standards. Any part that is of an older standard can throttle the data flow. Cables can be an exception to that rule, but should be fairly new. Excessive cable length can affect data speed.. beyond 10 ft. or 3 m...

Re: HP Photosmart C4200 Series issue [RESOLVED]
If you keep the printer on mains power all the time, possibly a 'blip' in the power mains have confused the controller. Unplug and wait about 15 seconds, then try again. Should be OK. Same applies to any electronic device with a memory controller.. any TV, microwave, coffee maker, security monitor, ...

Re: HP Photosmart C4200 Series issues
Can the unit do a copy feature? If so, then the unit is working properly, but likely a driver issue. Found a link for HP support that recommends removing the device and drivers from your Win 10 setup, then installing new drivers and the unit. Hope it works. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Soft...

Possible Facebook Scam..
There are scammers in almost every form, and social media is very popular. Facebook (and other sites) have had some recent activity in the form of Emails that look authentic. Hover over the 'from' part of the message, if anything other than the true site URL is there, DO NOT OPEN IT . Go straight to...

Re: Need new HD
Second opinion required! Service shops (not all) will want you to replace components or upgrade when only minor maintenance or a new driver is needed. Most store techs work on commission sales. First, how old is the hard drive, and how many hours use? Most mechanical hard drives last in excess of 10...

Re: BIOS Update - Best Method
Lower left corner of the first info screen will be a string of characters. This is a positive ID of the board, BIOS version and creation date. Search for that info, should be some links. Best would be to go to the Intel® site, search for the motherboard model. Should be a list of drivers, CPU types ...
