fenix...thanks! I haven't looked for Linux drivers for the printers. Since RedHat 7.3 saw them just fine, I guess I assumed they were sufficiently current in Mandrake 9.0. Obviously a bad assumption. I'll go looking. I am familair with linmodems, so will go and check the scanmodem tool and see what ...

Mandrake 9.0 - dual boot loader settings questions

I'm running a P2/300 dual-booted, Mandrake 9.0 and Win98. How do I change the default boot from Linux to Windows (my wife uses the computer a lot and for the foreseeable future, will mostly use Windows), and how do I change the delay time before it boots to the default? I think it is using grub, as ...

Mandrake 9.0 Install - newbie problems

I just installed Mandrake 9.0 last night using the "beginners mode." I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and quick it was. There were only three problems, and I will list them below in hopes that somebody can provide some assistantce. My system is dual booted with Win98. It is a P2/300 Micron Mil...

HJ.... Thanks! Exactly the kind of help I was looking for. Now to crank upmy nerve to dive in! :D I'm running Win98. Did you really mean to download a Win ME boot disk? Also, in my ignorance, I already bought the drive, so no option on ATA133 or ATA66. Guess I'll try it and see what happens. If it d...

Replacing HD, reinstalling Win - help please

I want to replace my OEM 6 GB drive with a new 60GB drive. I'm running Win98 upgraded from Win95, but updated with all updates. IDE slots are full, but plan to take one device out temporarily. Setup is currently 6 GB HD master and IDE Zip slave on one and CDRW master and CD slave on the other IDE ch...

Gewitter...did you ever have the urge to have your own server? My son picked up an old PC - can't tell you specs - installed Linux and is running it as a secure server for various things including as a buffer between his regular computer and the net. Linux is more tolerant of older, lower spec machi...

Evasive...well, the new battery fixed it. Now I just have to make sure all the settings are right - not sure about some, but will have to go back in and write them down before posting questions. I have a sheet here that I printed from the web about flashing BIOS, and it refers to a BIOS Guide to lea...

BIOS Update to handle 60 GB drive - TROUBLE!

I posted the original message on Tue Jan 14, 2003 12:41 pm (that thread with system details can be found on page 2 at this time) with the subject: Flash BIOS needed to support large HD (60 GB)? I have now updated using the Micron provided update (Micron Millenia xku, Intel Atlanta Pentium II AL440LX...

evasive...thanks! I checked the Intel link that you gave and it looks like the BIOS they give is probably newer than mine, so maybe the Micron provided update does as well. I suppose if not, I can always try the Intel one. Only problem is with all the warnings of possible dire consequences of using ...
