XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB Dual Fan Edition Review

DirectX 11 is the focus of many of the games being released today. Games like HAWX2, Civilization V, Aliens Versus Predator, Dirt 2 and many others are using DirectX 11 effects like Tessellation, and Compute Shaders to do very intensive calculations on the game engine. HAWX2, for example uses tessellation to allow over 1.5 million polygons a frame to be displayed without a large performance hit on the HD 6870. Aliens Versus Predator was an earlier game that uses tessellation in the character models for the Xenomorphs and Predators. This game ran at a steady 30-40 fps at 1920x1200 resolution on the XFX HD 6870 card.

The XFX Dual-Fan HD 6870 is one of the quietest video cards I’ve seen in a long time. Even at full 100% fan speed the card was subjectively quieter than the reference HD 6870 card was at normal operating speeds.
