In the end as far as sheer performance goes the new HD 6790 does indeed outshine the 550Ti by a small margin, so in that category the 6790 is winning. There are a few differences to consider in a head to head comparison against the 550Ti, the 550Ti runs a bit cooler, has a lower power requirement and is shorter by almost an inch. What the 6790 has to offer is Eyefinity Multi Monitor support, better performance and the ability to use display port technology, which is finally starting to catch on and offer and even better signal than HDMI. All in all the cards balance themselves out in my opinion and the choice just comes down to your needs and who you prefer in your system. The new RADEON HD 6790 series will hit the market in the $149-$159 price range depending on manufacture and features such as overclocked, extensive cooling, etc. If you are on a sub $200.00 budget and are a fan of the AMD name brand, you may find interest in this card as it performs in the range it was targeted at runs very quiet, and offers decent performance and low operating temperatures.
