The GeForce GTX 470 is competition for the ATI RADEON HD 5850 on all levels in terms of performance, features, and gaming experience. Where the GTX 470 is not competition is on power consumption and heat. The problem for NVIDIA is that they released this part 6 months later than the competition and are catching up with features and performance. Had this part been launched near the same time as the AMD part there would have been a great competition between the two graphics chip makers. As of now, NVIDIA still doesn’t have any mid-range or mainstream or value offerings in their lineups making the challenge one of competing in the high-end against a chip that has been on the market 6 months. NVIDIA cards have their advantages in the form of PhysX support in current and upcoming games like Metro 2033 and Mafia II, and Stereoscopic 3D Vision, but these are not life-changing features as not everyone will have an NVIDIA card and developer support for PhysX, while good, has not reached the mainstream as of yet. Cards based upon the GeForce GTX 470 are available from many add-in partners including EVGA, Zotac, ASUS and GIGABYTE.
