MSI’s XPower Big Bang motherboard is based upon the Intel X58/ICH10R Northbridge/Southbridge combination. MSI has created their Big Bang series with the gamer in mind to provide unprecedented gaming experience. One feature that many motherboard manufacturers have begun stressing is their military class components.
MSI offers Icy Chokes, Hi-c CAP capacitors and solid capacitors on their board. The new generation Ferrite Core chokes offers up to 20C lower temperature, a stable power supply and higher power efficiency than earlier chokes. This board also has Highly Conductive Polymerized Capacitors that have up to a 160000-hour lifespan compared to solid capacitors. The solid capacitors on the board have a 10-year lifetime under full load and have an Aluminum core.
Ok onboard audio has been in a bit of a funk lately with every motherboard having High Definition Audio supporting Codec’s and supporting the features of Microsoft’s Windows 7 software. Some of the latest motherboards have been supporting Creative’s X-Fi MB solution. The MSI XPower Big Bang board supports EAX 5.0 HD and Creative Alchemy. Creative has committed their audio resources to the new OpenAL 1.1 standard. This board also supports THX’s TruStudio Pro.
Motherboard manufacturers have been stressing overclocking as one of their big features. This board has a dedicated button called OC Genie, which automatically overclocks the CPU when the button is lit. The board also has all of the standard overclocking features in the BIOS but also has an OC Dashboard, which overclocks the system when connected to the motherboard. MSI has really gone the extra mile for those that want easy overclocking with this motherboard.
One of the new features of motherboards is the support for new technologies like USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/second drives. USB 3.0 delivers more power to devices than 2.0, 900 micro Amps versus 500mA. This allows devices such as an IPhone to be charged faster than charging them on the USB 2.0 bus. MSI calls this iCharge to signify that you can charge your IPhone faster than on other solutions by using the USB 3.0 bus.
