We have seen a resurgence in the number of X58 chipset motherboards with the release of the 980X, the Core i7 970 and the release of USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/second drives and chips to support those drives types. Many motherboard manufacturers have taken the existing design of their x58 chipset boards and added features like USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/second ports to the motherboard.
GIGABYTE has released many motherboards over the last two years that sport the X58 chipset. They tend to cater to the performance side of the market with many enthusiasts using their motherboards for their features, performance and overclocking ability. The latest board from GIGABYTE to hit our review bench is the X58-USB3 motherboard. This is not to be confused with the H55N-USB3 I reviewed earlier this year. As you can imagine one of the key selling points of this board is support for USB 3.0 devices.
