AMD is the market leader in terms of graphics cards market share and has been since the release of the HD 5xxx series last year since NVIDIA only very recently completed their lineup of GeForce Fermi cards. AMD launched a top to bottom family of video cards before NVIDIA even launched their GTX 480 to retail.
NVIDIA recently launched the second card to feature the GeForce Fermi architecture for the high-end market, the GeForce GTX 580 and GeForce GTX 570 cards. These are re-engineered at the transistor level chips that have more enabled SPs than the 480 and 470 that they replaced. Today marks the launch of AMD’s counter-attack in the form of the Cayman series of video chips, the HD 6970 and HD 6950.
GIGABYTE has been making both NVIDIA and AMD video cards for years now with cards based upon the latest from each company. They launched the HD 6870 and HD 6850 cards a month or two ago, when AMD launched the Barts chip. Today’s review is on their latest video card from AMD, the GIGABYTE RADEON HD 6950 card GV-R695D5-2GD-B. It should be an interesting review of a new card from one of my favorite companies.
