Overall the Drobo B800i is a great product that will allow your company or business to store its information quickly and efficiently. The amount of storage and its features to keep your information safe is a hard combo to beat. Their biggest advantage is the BeyondRAID technology and the hot swappable drive bays. These allow for critical information to be safe and secure even if a new drive is installed or a faulty drive is removed. The GUI is also easy to use and interact with. It took minimal effort to set up the Drobo B800i and connect it to multiple computers. I did take a while to connect to the device but that is because it was connect to a modem with firewall complications. Once connecting this product with a switch or disengaging the firewall, my computers were able to recognize and connect to it.
However, there were some disadvantages to this product as well. The loud start up and smell was just something I had to deal with during testing. Most of the time I think product will be stored in a room no one is really in unless there is a faulty drive to access. And the time it took for the Drobo B800i to make sure that the information was safe again after removing a drive is a bit slower than I thought it would be. This is still my first SAN product so I can say that this might be normal for most other products and it is still well faster than any NAS comparable product. Keeping your information is of the utmost priority, so waiting extra few minutes will not be a concern to most people looking in purchasing this product as integrity of the information is the most valued aspect of the Drobo .
I think this product’s advantages definitely outweighs its disadvantages simply because it can store a lot of information and keep it intact during many different scenarios. The Drobo copy is one of the tools that I think most companies will like because you can keep a critical folder that is continuously updated safe and secure. And the way it stores your information definitely makes sure you do not lose any memory. The Drobo B800i comes into the market around $3,300 dollars and is a great investment for any companies that has critical information to be safely and securely stored. For the government and other businesses that require information to be stored for a minimum or maximum amount of time, the Drobo can be a priceless tool, take any Airport for example, they need to keep any and all manuals and information about planes for a minimum of five years or face severe penalties from the FAA. In an instance like that, the $3000.00 price tag pales in comparison to the fees levied if lost, a priceless commodity having that feeling of security and integrity of your valued information.
