The O! Play HD2 has black and red silhouette background that is simple and elegant. The GUI is pretty straight forward with a home button on the remote if you ever get lost or need to go back to the main menu.

The new software does need a lot of improvement in terms of functionality. When you connect your external storage device, it indicates on the top left of the screen that it is indexing all your media files. This is so you can easily access all your files without having to navigate through all your folders. At first, I thought this was great but it just loads all the files alphabetically and not in the folders I had arranged them in.

It would have been better to index the folders and subfolders so that it does not show up as a bunch of video files. Secondly, the movie preview is a big letdown from the previous model. I really enjoyed big movie preview from the O! Play Air. In the O! Play HD2, the movie preview is small box on the top right of the screen and is insignificant relative to the whole screen. In my opinion they should of taken out the movie preview altogether if they were going to reduce the size that much. It did not serve a purpose anymore because it was too small for it to be useful or satisfying. On the other hand, the audio and online media services were great. The audio loaded files quicker than the O! Play Air and had greater sound quality. The online channels were great however, the description of the channel made it hard to understand exactly what the channel was about. I do not know if Asus has control over what the description of the channel is but overall the quality and selection of channels was great.
