AMD launched their Barts chip just a few days ago with the launch of the RADEON HD 6870 and HD 6850 which are the Barts XT and Pro versions of their 6 Series. The 6870 is the replacement for the HD 5770 card at $239.99 and the HD 6850 is the replacement for the HD 5750 at $179.99. These cards represent an upgrade to near the HD 5 series of the same last three numbers.

Without going into AMD’s future plans, it’s pretty obvious that they will replace their high-end lineup with new cards as well. The “Cayman” chip will likely launch in the near future at the above $300 price point. It is also likely that AMD will release a new chip to replace the HD 5450 in the lineup and 5670. It should be an interesting to see how their product stack lies in the next few months.

ASUS is one of the leading motherboard and video card companies on the planet. They have released a HD 6850 at launch with the same price as the HD 6850s from other manufacturers with the difference being a slight overclock by default. A free performance increase for the same performance is always good and ASUS differentiates itself from other cards on the market with custom cooling and other features. Today’s card review is on the ASUS RADEON EAH6850 DirectCU card.
