Every year NVIDIA and AMD release new video cards to sell. NVIDIA fired the first shot with the GeForce GTX 580 just a short while ago.AMD launched their Evergreen family of video cards late last year with the RADEON HD 5870 and its variants. The HD 5870 was the first card to fully support DirectX 11. AMD recently launched the HD 6870 to replace the HD 5830 and 5770 in the lineup offering higher performance.
AMD decided to release a new architecture with a lot of new features this year instead of overclocking the HD 5870 or enabling SPs as the other company might have done. Today marks the launch of two new video cards, the RADEON HD 6970 and RADEON HD 6950 to replace the RADEON HD 5870 and HD 5850 respectively. This is not AMD’s top offering, they will release a chip called Antilles early next year with two of the Cayman chips found on the HD 6970/HD 6950.
