The new 800 MHz Bus CPU's are becoming mainstream starting with the Pentium 4 2.4C CPU. The price difference between the 800MHz CPU's and 533 MHz CPU's at the same frequency was about $15 at the press time. So the new PC's should be based on either Intel 875P or 865 generation unless you choose AMD.

The discussion about Performance Acceleration Technology (PAT) is still out there but everybody thinks the performance difference between 865PE and 875P chipset motherboards is not worth the money. The motherboard manufacturers reduced their price on their 875P chipset motherboards but still the 865 based motherboards attract more people.

Cost conscious office users are looking for integrated solutions. Mostly, all graphics adapters can easily handle the 2D and office workload. The 865G chipset is just the chipset for the office PC market.

We have a fine specimen of an 865G chipset motherboard to test; The Gigabyte GA-8IG1000 PRO. We dared to compare the performance of the on-board Video to a GeForce 4200TI graphics adapter too. So let's see.
