Personally, I absolutely hated the game. If SEGA actually tried to make a decent product, they sure fooled me. First of all, the game plays sluggish. Anywhere from the way the mouse handles to the way construction works to troop movement... basically all aspects of gameplay could use some help.
Second, the game just isn't fun; at least it was not fun for me. Even the name bothers me. The entire action takes place on Earth, with three races fighting it out. But going back to the lack of fun... let me say this: minus the different graphics there was absolutely nothing new and original in this game. Odds are that if you have another RTS in your collection you're better off than playing this one.
Even the graphics let me down. Just because it has a lot of different color lasers and many explosions does not necessarily make the graphics "state of the art." As a matter of fact, I'm shocked that I didn't have a seizure from all the flashing lights. I've reviewed a lot of RTSs and played even more, and I have to say that SEGA's Universe at War - Earth Assault is by far the worst RTS that I've played in the last five years. Games like this make Empire Earth III look good.
On the other hand, I've learned that nothing in this world is either all good or all bad. Unfortunately for this game, it took a lot of thinking on my part to find something positive about it. Unlike so many RTSs out there, SEGA's Universe at War - Earth Assault caters to the PG crowd. There is no foul language in the game, and even though the game is filled with lasers and explosions it does not have blood and the graphic violence found in games such as Company of Heroes. So if you are in the PG group or know anyone in it, this will actually be a good purchase. On the other hand, if you've played and loved games such as Company of Heroes, any of the Total War series, or even Earth 2160, than do yourself a favor and stay away from this title. As for me, the second I get the chance I will pawn this game on one of my friends. I just don't like it, or want it.
